Youth Workforce Development
LLUK has been commissioned to work on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) to design implementation plans for youth work reform. This project arises out of "The Ten Year Strategy for the Youth Workforce," - a document written by DCSF outlining how they intend to provide a range of workforce development opportunities to the youth workforce in England. DCSF has commissioned this research, which is part of a range of research being undertaken by and with the full support of both Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) and Lifelong Learning UK sector skills councils.
LLUK's key partners in this project are DCSF, the Children's Workforce Development Council, youth work employers, representative youth work organisations and a number of other Sector Skills Councils.
LLUK are to deliver development work on four strands of the policy to enable early implementation work starting in early 2008.
LLUK will produce research and detailed implementation plans for the following four strands of policy:
-
options to attract high calibre graduates to enter the workforce
-
options to increase the take up of apprenticeships across young people services
-
scoping work to develop codes of practice/conduct for the youth workforce
-
to act as a source of expert knowledge while supporting the other project strands outlined in the policy.
The commissioned work covers England only. Objectives for the development phase only include the youth workforce occupational areas of Youth Justice, Youth Work and Information Advice & Guidance.
As part of the research a two documents have been produced, on which we would welcome comment.
The first is a report on the creation of a code of conduct for the youth workforce and secondly on the issues and barriers to the uptake of youth workforce apprenticeships.
If you have any response or request for further information about the project, please contact the project manager by email or by telephoning 0870 300 8110.
