Mission

Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK)'s specific and unique role is pivotal to enabling the skills supply system to increase in quality and capacity to meet challenges across the UK.

The background to LLUK's work is the key policies published by the UK government and the governments of the four nations to reshape their skills supply systems, as follows:

Liaison with decision-makers, including national governments, is a key aspect of LLUK's role. Jane Davidson AM, Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills, said:

"...we plan to move towards a professional development framework for the whole teaching and learning workforce in Wales ... I want to work closely with LLUK in taking this agenda forward."

So that UK employers have access to the skills and knowledge needed for a prosperous economy and an inclusive and self-fulfilled society, LLUK will thus:

enable lifelong learning employers to recruit, retain, develop and apply suitably skilled and effective staff,

and act as a broker with the other sector skills councils in the Skills for Business network.

Further information about LLUK's underlying principles is available in our vision and strategic priorities sections, as is background information about how LLUK influences policy and works internationally.
