Developing capability, unlocking potential
In 2006 the government's White Paper Further Education: Raising Skills, Improving Life Chances outlined a vision for the UK workforce to ensure that it would be equipped with the right skills to sustain our quality of life and international economic standing. The Catalyst programme was developed in response to this. Now in its second year, Catalyst is working with the further education sector in England to provide opportunities to facilitate continuing professional development, support the recruitment and development of management and leadership professionals, and ensure relevance and occupational currency in specific areas. These changes will help ensure an effective further education workforce with the skills
to drive change by raising the skills of all workers, throughout their lives.
Catalyst focuses on important sector issues, addressing them through programmes of supported development in the areas of:
- Continuing professional development
- Leadership and management
- Filling skills gaps
- Building links with industry
Catalyst is managed by Lifelong Learning UK in partnership with the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, employers, learning providers, representative bodies and other further education organisations, and the benefits of Catalyst will be seen across the further education sector. If you would like to know more about working with us to deliver Catalyst contact our Sector Engagement team at Catalyst@lluk.org.
