Business Talent

Business Talent will encourage Further Education (FE) training and skills providers to recruit talented leaders from outside the FE sector to senior management positions within FE. Business Talent has been developed in consultation with the FE sector, and will provide practical support to help FE providers to attract and retain successful private and public sector senior managers.

This programme will work with FE providers in England, including FE colleges, work based learning providers, providers of personal and community development learning and sixth form and specialist colleges providing vocational programmes. Support and advice will be made available for providers that are looking to recruit managers from outside the sector, and support for individuals recruited from outside FE will be made available through Business Talent to aid their transition into working in FE.

Business Talent grew from Sir Andrew Foster's recommendations, which stressed the necessity of improving management and leadership in FE. The Foster Report, Leitch Review of Skills and FE White Paper all emphasised the importance of effective management and leadership in building successful FE and developing the skills of the UK workforce.

Business Talent will seek to inspire a culture change within FE senior management recruitment that encourages providers to consider more candidates from outside the sector when recruiting to these roles and recognise the positive impact such individuals could have on their organisation.

Currently the project is in the development stages. For more information about Business Talent, or to register an interest in participating, please email the project team.
