'Transforming the future FE Workforce to become a force for change'

Working in close partnership with key stakeholders and partner agencies in the Further Education (FE) sector, Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) facilitated the development of the first Workforce Strategy Implementation Plan. It is now available and accessible via our website: http://www.lluk.org/3263.htm

Within a context of change in the FE sector and an inclusive vision for the workforce to become more responsive to the diverse learning needs of young people, adults and employers; the Implementation Plan captures the actions and milestones committed by key stakeholders during 2008-09 to help realise the outcomes set for 2011.

The Workforce Strategy and its Implementation Plan is a first for the FE sector. Both are intended to act as an aid to individual employers when shaping their own strategic workforce activities and planning. They are not fixed documents and will be reviewed and refreshed annually to reflect new policy drivers, regulatory issues and environmental factors impacting on the sector. The first Implementation Plan aims to:

  • identify the value of bringing together different strands of workforce development in a single plan for providers and employees
  • acknowledge that providers in the sector are at different stages in their workforce development and looking at varying types of support from the Implementation Plan
  • contain a checklist that providers can use to source actions for their own workforce development

LLUK hopes that these publications will contribute to the overall workforce development in the wider FE system as this is a significant strategic step forward by and for the sector. To mark the official publication and launch of the Implementation Plan, LLUK are proposing to host a series of regional events across England.  Further information on the format, timing and themes of these events will be forthcoming shortly.
